Sailors have always found Victoria to be a hospitable harbour
and friendly port. Each year Maritime Forces Pacific hosts
thousands of sailors from around the world. 2010 will be
particularly memorable as we welcome the Navies of the world
to help celebrate the Canadian
Naval Centennial year.
The communities of Greater Victoria offer a wide variety of recreational
and cultural activities in addition to the natural beauty of Vancouver
Island.
Among the many historical sites is Her Majesty's Canadian Dockyard
itself that was founded by the Royal Navy in 1885. I also invite
you to see the exhibits in the Canadian
Forces Base Esquimalt Naval and Military Museum that is open
every weekday.
I am proud to welcome you to Victoria and I am certain that you
will have a pleasant visit.
Rear Admiral Nigel Greenwood
